How these questions work
Two figures show a change, for example the shape turns black or flips over. Your child applies exactly the same change to a third figure and picks the result.
Worked example
The top two figures go together in a certain way. Which figure goes with the bottom one in the same way?
Show answer
Answer: E In the top pair, from left to right the direction changes from turned a quarter clockwise to upside down. Everything else stays the same, and each pair keeps its own colour and number of shapes. Doing the same to the bottom figure gives a white triangle upside down.
Tips
- Describe the change from the first figure to the second in one sentence before doing anything else.
- Then apply that sentence, word for word, to the new figure.
- Check every feature: if the shading changed but the size didn't, the answer's size shouldn't change either.
The usual trap: An option that applies the change but also alters something that should have stayed the same.
